Our Inspiration & This Month's Cause

This month, we’re benefiting a cause - or rather, a friend - who is near and dear to our hearts. In February, Carol Barefoot Dixon was diagnosed with Stage 3 Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer, which spread to at least two lymph nodes since beginning treatment. Carol is no stranger to the fight and met her diagnosis with an iron fist. This is her story.

“Since my mother, God bless her soul, battled this disease on and on for 41 years of her life, I knew I had what it takes to head this off and win my battle, and that is just what I am doing!”

Carol is the mother of 13-year-old Will, who has been by his mom’s side every step of the way. In June, Will was released from his Pediatric Neurologist after a brutal concussion from competitive wrestling, proving that the fighting genes run in their blood. With each day, Carol is bravely kicking cancer to the curb, but “only with God’s blessings and all the many prayers, love and support of my family, friends, Ann Street United Methodist Church,  colleagues in Real Estate, Running Community, past and present real estate clients, Peace College and NC State University Alumni,” Carol says. “I feel so blessed to have so many pulling for me!”

At Beaufort Proper, we consider it an honor and a privilege to have a business plan that weaves our local community into the structure. Each month, we are able to choose a new local organization, charity, or special cause to benefit. 10% of our sales plus any cash donations made at our Back to School shopping event on Thursday, August 24th will help Carol continue to pay for treatment and bravely walk down the road to recovery. We are also incredibly grateful for our friends at Jarret Bay Clothing Company, Tracy Sinclair with Scentsy, Chic Happens, and Time in a Bottle Wines for also contributing to our dear friend.
